Adventures in the Walmart $1 fabric bin

I wanted fabric, badly. But I didn't want to blow all my weekly allowence on one and a half yards of fabric at Joannes. Instead I went to walmart and found three lovely stretch knits in their $1 bin, along with some fabric to make a pencil skirt and a dress shirt out of. Earlier this month I had gone to an estate sale and filled a garbage bag full of lovely stretch fabric and other odds and ends (including a loom) for just $5. It's been a good deal month.

These two tops were made from the fabric I found in the walmart $1 fabric bin:

Super soft, super comfortable. It's probobly one of my favorite shirts. There is one little button at the bottom of the v-neck that I found in my button stash. It fit so perfectly there!

Also super soft and super comfortable. I've been drolling over this swing dress from the 1950s over the past couple of weeks, so I decided I would take the bodice of that dress and make it into a top. It turned out almost exactly like I had planned. I only wish that the should bit above the gathered bust was square instead of slanted. Then this top would have been a dead ringer for the dress I'm in love with.

This is a top I made out of some of the Estate sale fabric:

At first I was going for a 1940s halter, then I realized I wouldn't be able to wear that to school. So I compromised with myself and came out with this. I love it, it fits like a dream.

Details-
Sweet heart neckline
Gathered straps (school appropriate!)

Now I need to go tackle the rest of my fabric pile and sew some more clothes for school.
